History of the F1 Saudi Arabia GP
The Jeddah Corniche Circuit, a striking temporary street circuit, is situated along the 30km coastal resort area of Jeddah in Saudi Arabia. While it features some permanent sections, it’s primarily designed as a street layout. Created by the Tilke company in collaboration with Formula 1’s Motorsports team, the track’s design was initially explored using Google Earth.
F1’s Ross Brawn emphasized the desire for a circuit that truly challenges the drivers: “We want fast, sweeping corners, not outdated street circuits with sharp turns. It’s about creating a track that drivers will love and push them to their limits.”
The first Saudi Arabian Grand Prix took place in 2021, joining Bahrain and Abu Dhabi as another night race in the Middle East. The event quickly became a highlight in the F1 schedule, with fans following the thrilling action as Formula 1 teams and drivers battle under the floodlights.
