Last Friday, December 13th, the FIA Awards Gala took place, marking the end of another thrilling season in motorsport. For the past seven years, the FIA has conducted an annual survey among F1 drivers to determine their Top 10 F1 Drivers. This year’s edition sees Max Verstappen once again at the top of the rankings for 2024.
The majority of the current F1 grid participate in this survey, each creating their personal top 10 list. The scoring follows the same F1 points system used in the regular season standings—25 points for the first position, down to 1 point for the 10th. Once the drivers submit their votes, the numbers are crunched to reveal the F1 rankings. By the way, all votes are anonymous.
Results
Rank | Drivers | 2023 Rank |
---|---|---|
1 | Max Verstappen | = |
2 | Lando Norris | Up 2 |
3 | Charles Leclerc | Up 2 |
4 | George Russell | New Entry |
5 | Oscar Piastri | Up 3 |
6 | Carlos Sainz | = |
7 | Pierre Gasly | Up 2 |
8 | Niko Hulkenberg | New Entry |
9 | Fernando Alonso | Down 6 |
10 | Lewis Hamilton | Down 6 |
The top three spots align with the final results of the Drivers’ Championship: Verstappen (#1), Norris (#2), and Leclerc (#3).
One of the biggest movers this year was Oscar Piastri, climbing three places to secure the #5 position compared to last year. Meanwhile, George Russell, who didn’t make it into the rankings last year, made an impressive leap to #4, reflecting his strong performance and contributions to his F1 team.
On the other hand, the two other F1 World Champions on the grid faced a decline. Lewis Hamilton dropped to 10th place, and Fernando Alonso landed in 9th after what many consider a challenging season.
Sergio Pérez, unfortunately, had the biggest setback. After a disappointing F1 season, the Mexican driver failed to make it into the rankings this year.
