Leclerc Reflects on Teaming Up with Hamilton at Ferrari

Charles Leclerc has shared insights into his collaboration with Lewis Hamilton at Ferrari, admitting that he was “surprised” by how closely their driving styles align. The Monegasque driver sees this as a positive factor that could benefit the team’s performance in the 2025 F1 season.

Hamilton officially joined Ferrari in January, immersing himself in the team’s operations through an extensive familiarization program. The seven-time world champion made his first public appearance as a Ferrari driver alongside Leclerc at the F1 75 Live event, where they unveiled the new livery. Shortly after, Hamilton hit the track in Bahrain for pre-season testing, marking his first laps in the SF-25.

Leclerc on Hamilton’s Transition to Ferrari

During testing at the Bahrain International Circuit, Leclerc was asked about Hamilton’s experience of adapting to Ferrari—a transition he himself went through in 2019.

“It’s great to witness,” Leclerc said. “The situation is quite different, though. When I joined, I had only one season in Formula 1 with Sauber, so I was still learning the ropes of the sport and how a team like Ferrari operates.

“For Lewis, it’s a new chapter, but he arrives here as a legend of the sport. Seeing how he adapts and shares his experience has been fascinating. He has already brought valuable insights from his time at other Formula 1 teams, which has been beneficial for all of us.”

The 27-year-old also reflected on his own off-season, explaining that while Hamilton’s arrival drew significant attention, he remained focused on preparing for the new campaign.

“I kept things low-key, worked on myself, and pushed to be in top shape for the first race. Hopefully, we can start the season on a stronger note than last year.”

Leclerc and Hamilton Share Similar Driving Styles

Discussing his working relationship with Hamilton, Leclerc expressed optimism about their ability to align on car development and race strategy.

“I was quite surprised—our driving styles are very similar,” he revealed. “We both like to be aggressive, especially in corner entries, which means we require similar characteristics from the car.

“That’s a big plus for the team. When both drivers are asking for the same things, it helps push the car in the right direction. So far, our collaboration has been excellent.”

Leclerc also mentioned that, aside from their work on track, they have spent significant time together on media obligations, which, while not their favorite part of the job, is necessary.

“We’ve had a lot of time together since the beginning of the year—not always on track, but in the studio doing photoshoots,” he laughed. “It’s not the part we enjoy the most, but it’s part of the job! I’m really looking forward to racing alongside him and hopefully bringing Ferrari back to the top.”

With both F1 drivers aligned in their approach, Ferrari fans have high hopes for the upcoming season as the Scuderia aims to return to championship contention.
