GM To Be The 11th F1 Team

GM To Be The 11th F1 Team

After months of intense negotiations, it’s official! Formula 1 will have an eleventh team on the grid. GM and Cadillac are teaming up to bring a second American team to the paddock.

General Motors’ introduction to Formula 1 is set for the 2026 Formula 1 season, entering as a customer team with the support of Andretti.

What does this mean? Since they lack the capacity to produce their own power units, this F1 team needs to partner with established organizations, and Andretti makes the most sense.

Ferrari will supply their engines until 2028. Andretti, with its European base in Silverstone, will serve as the team’s hub on the continent, alongside other facilities in the U.S. A storied name in the racing world, Andretti’s involvement solidifies its potential as an F1 contender.

It’s still too early to talk about their Formula 1 drivers, but the name Pato O’Ward stands out. With experience in this discipline and countless displays of talent in IndyCar, he’s an exciting prospect.

Liberty Media and the U.S. Market

Since the arrival of the U.S. powerhouse Liberty Media, the growth of Formula 1 in the States has been nothing short of extraordinary. Their marketing and organizational expertise have expanded F1’s reach and amplified its appeal over time.

From shows and films like Netflix’s hit Drive to Survive to Brad Pitt’s upcoming F1 movie, the sport has captured the hearts of a nation deeply rooted in NASCAR culture.

The additions of the Miami GP and Las Vegas GP have brought a unique flair to the calendar. Luxury, glitz, and Hollywood stars flood the paddock, drawing global attention to the spectacle.

The recent Las Vegas GP, where Max Verstappen secured his fourth F1 championship, served as a well-deserved reward not only for Max but also for the event’s organizers.
