Norris Secures Pole in Sprint Qualifying

After an intense night in Lusail, Lando Norris dominates the F1 news by claiming pole position in the sprint qualifying. The Qatar GP holds significant weight for two Formula 1 teams in particular: Ferrari and Mercedes. For McLaren, it’s a chance to seal the constructors’ championship, while Ferrari aims to push the championship decision to next weekend.

The sprint is shaping up to be an exciting showdown. With Norris and Piastri locking in P1 and P3, McLaren looks strong, starting ahead of the two Ferraris in P4 and P5. (Check out our F1 news section for more details on the epic Ferrari vs McLaren battle for the championship.)

McLaren’s strategy will be crucial, but the spotlight remains on Norris and his ability to hold his position at the start. Ferrari’s experienced F1 drivers won’t hesitate to exploit any mistakes made by the McLarens, turning opportunities into victories.

Once again, Sergio Pérez continues to show he’s struggling to match the caliber of a team like Red Bull. Yes, we get it—the RB20 is far from the speed machine its predecessors were. However, if Max could clinch his fourth F1 Drivers’ Championship with it, we can reasonably expect Pérez to at least reach Q2 in qualifying. Unfortunately, he delivered another poor performance (typical of his 2024 F1 season), securing a humiliating P16 for the sprint start.

Meanwhile, the Haas team proved themselves to be solid mid-field contenders in the Formula 1 standings. K-Mag managed to qualify ahead of higher-performing teams, outqualifying both Yuki Tsunoda and Pérez, and coming within 0.02 seconds of Lance Stroll’s Aston Martin.

As for Nico Hülkenberg, his P9 finish was nothing short of impressive. Although we’ve seen him do this before, it’s always remarkable to witness a driver extract such potential from a Haas. Similarly, Pierre Gasly put in an excellent performance, placing his Alpine in P8.
